Keeping our Twins Safe at Home

As many know we have more than just our twins, we have 2 older daughters who very much like to be involved in Mark & David’s lives. Sometimes it is so much though that it overwhelms them. Dave and I also had the challenge of keeping 2 active little boys safe in our home. When the girls were little the crawled about where we were and we were able to keep better eyes on them. Now with 2 there are twice as many people to get into trouble and also twice as much laundry and housework to keep up on. So we are not able to always be right there with them. A solution we came up with to keep everyone safe and happy was to get one of those interlocking gate systems. We nicknamed it the UFC ring (Yes to all my UFC friends I know it is not a ring) even if it looks more like a square right now.

This has been one of the best things we have done for the boys. It is set up in our living room where I spend most my day, between there and the kitchen. We laid down a foam alphabet mat and put all their toys inside. We can safely put them down and go about our business without the worry they cannot get into anything. Our girls are pretty good at tidying up but they have so many toys with small parts it was hard to keep track of everything. With the ring set up it is the boys safe place. Nothing goes in it that isn’t one of their toys, and it keeps the girls out as well. They love their brothers but sometimes a little too much for their liking.

It has given us peace of mind and the safety our boys need. I’ve attached a few pictures to show you what it looks like for anyone interested in setting up their own. We did purchase ours at Toys R Us and was then handed down 2 extra gates.

Now I will tell you when we do let the boys out to explore the house, it seems like Christmas to them. They cannot get into more things fast enough or move around fast enough sometimes.
